This calculator uses the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) formula to estimate calories burned during exercise. It's a scientifically validated method for calculating energy expenditure.
The Formula:Total Calories Burned = Duration (in minutes) * (MET * 3.5 * Body Weight in kg) / 200
What is a MET?A MET value represents the energy cost of an activity. A MET of 1 is equivalent to the energy you burn at rest. Climbing stairs has different MET values depending on your pace:
- Slow Pace: 4.0 METs (e.g., walking up stairs slowly)
- Moderate Pace: 8.8 METs (e.g., walking up stairs at a fast pace)
- Vigorous Pace (Stair Machine): 9.0 METs (e.g., using a stair-climbing machine)
