Swimming Calories Burned Calculator
How We Estimate Calories
This calculator uses the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) formula to estimate calories burned during exercise. It's a scientifically validated method for calculating energy expenditure.
The Formula:Total Calories Burned = Duration (in minutes) * (MET * 3.5 * Body Weight in kg) / 200
What is a MET?A MET value represents the energy cost of an activity. A MET of 1 is equivalent to the energy you burn at rest. Different swimming strokes and intensities have different MET values:
- Leisurely Pace: 6.0 METs
- Breaststroke: 10.0 METs
- Backstroke: 7.0 METs
- Freestyle/Crawl (Moderate): 8.0 METs
- Freestyle/Crawl (Vigorous): 11.0 METs
