Nutrient Density Calculator (nutrients per calorie)

Nutrient density is a measure of the nutrients a food provides relative to the energy (calories) it provides. Foods with high nutrient density give you more beneficial nutrients for fewer calories.

How is the score calculated?

This calculator uses a simplified method to determine a score:

1. It calculates the percentage of your Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for a specific nutrient that one serving of the food provides.

2. It calculates the percentage of a standard 2000-calorie diet that one serving of the food provides.

3. It creates a ratio of these two percentages. A score greater than 1.0 means the food provides more nutrients than calories, making it nutrient-dense.
