Electrolyte Replacement Calculator
How Electrolyte Needs are Estimated
This calculator provides a simplified estimate of key electrolytes lost through sweat during exercise.
Why are electrolytes important?Electrolytes like sodium and potassium are crucial for nerve function, muscle contractions, and maintaining fluid balance. You lose them when you sweat.
Estimation Method:Electrolyte loss varies greatly from person to person. This tool uses general averages for athletes:
- Sodium: Loss is estimated based on your sweat level, ranging from 500 mg/hour for light sweating to 1500 mg/hour for heavy sweating.
- Potassium: Loss is much lower, estimated at a general rate of about 200 mg/hour of exercise.
Disclaimer: This is a general estimate. For precise needs, especially for endurance events, consult a sports dietitian or medical professional.
