Burn Severity Estimator
This calculator demonstrates the "Rule of Nines," a method used by medical professionals to quickly estimate the Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) percentage affected by second and third-degree burns in adults. [1]
How It Works:The adult body is divided into regions, with surface area values assigned in multiples of nine. The TBSA is a critical factor in guiding treatment decisions, such as the amount of intravenous fluid resuscitation required. [2]
How to Use:Check the boxes corresponding to all burned areas on an adult body. The calculator will sum the percentages to provide an estimated TBSA. This tool is for adults only; children require a different assessment method (like the Lund-Browder chart) due to their different body proportions.

This is an educational tool ONLY. It is NOT for self-diagnosis or for making treatment decisions. All burns are serious injuries that require immediate evaluation by a qualified medical professional. If you or someone else is burned, call emergency services (911) or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
