UV Exposure Time
This tool provides a simplified estimate of how long you can be in the sun before you might burn.
1. UV Index:Enter the current UV Index for your location. You can find this in most weather apps.
2. Skin Type:Select your skin type based on the Fitzpatrick scale. Type I is the fairest and burns most easily, while Type VI is the darkest and most resistant to burning.
3. Sunscreen SPF:Enter the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of the sunscreen you are using. Enter 0 or leave blank if not using any.
This calculator provides a rough estimate for educational purposes ONLY. It is NOT a substitute for medical advice and is NOT a guarantee against sunburn, skin damage, or skin cancer.
The time to burn can be affected by many factors, including humidity, altitude, reflection from sand/water/snow, and how generously sunscreen is applied.
Always practice comprehensive sun safety: Seek shade, wear protective clothing, use broad-spectrum sunscreen, and avoid peak sun hours.
Estimate your maximum safe sun exposure time.
