Understanding Notations

This tool converts between inequality notation and interval notation.

Interval Notation

Uses parentheses `()` for exclusive endpoints (not included) and square brackets `[]` for inclusive endpoints (included).

`(` or `)` corresponds to `<` or `>`.

`[` or `]` corresponds to `≤` or `≥`.

Infinity `(∞)` is always exclusive.

Examples

Inequality: \(x > 5\)
Interval: \((5, \infty)\)

Inequality: \(-2 \le x < 3\)
Interval: \([-2, 3)\)

Inequality: \(x \le 0 \text{ or } x > 4\)
Interval: \((-\infty, 0] \cup (4, \infty)\)
