Polynomial Long Division
Polynomial long division is a method for dividing a polynomial by another polynomial of the same or lower degree.
Steps:
- Arrange: Write the problem in long division format, ensuring both polynomials are in standard form with placeholders (like \(0x^2\)) for any missing terms.
- Divide: Divide the first term of the dividend by the first term of the divisor. This gives the first term of the quotient.
- Multiply: Multiply the entire divisor by the term of the quotient you just found.
- Subtract: Subtract the result from the dividend. Bring down the next term from the dividend to form a new polynomial.
- Repeat: Repeat steps 2-4 with the new polynomial until the degree of the remainder is less than the degree of the divisor.
