Generic Rectangle Calculator
How to Use the Generic Rectangle Method
The generic rectangle (or area model) is a visual method for multiplying polynomials.
Example: \( (2x + 3)(x + 4) \)
- Draw a grid: Create a 2x2 grid since you are multiplying two binomials.
- Label the sides: Write the terms of the first binomial (2x and 3) along the top. Write the terms of the second binomial (x and 4) along the side.
- Multiply: Fill each box by multiplying its corresponding row and column term.
- Combine: Add all the terms from inside the boxes and combine any like terms to get the final answer.
