Understanding Cube Roots
The cube root of a number \(x\) is a value that, when multiplied by itself three times, equals \(x\).
The Formula:
If \(y = \sqrt[3]{x}\), then \(y \times y \times y = x\)
Unlike square roots, the cube root of a negative number is a real number.
Examples:
- \(\sqrt[3]{27} = 3\), because \(3 \times 3 \times 3 = 27\)
- \(\sqrt[3]{-8} = -2\), because \(-2 \times -2 \times -2 = -8\)
