Adjusted Body Weight Calculator
Adjusted Body Weight (AjBW) is a measure used in medicine to calculate medication dosages for obese patients. It provides a more accurate dosing weight than total body weight or ideal body weight for certain drugs.
- Using total body weight can lead to overdosing.
- Using ideal body weight can lead to underdosing.
AjBW serves as a correction by accounting for a portion of the patient's excess body fat.
Formulas Used:1. Ideal Body Weight (IBW) is first calculated using the Devine formula:
- Male: 50 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.
- Female: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.
2. Adjusted Body Weight (AjBW) is then calculated:
AjBW = IBW + 0.4 * (Actual Weight - IBW)
