Solving Absolute Value Equations
This calculator solves two common types of absolute value equations.
Type 1: |ax + b| = c
This splits into two cases, provided c ≥ 0:
$$ \begin{cases} ax + b = c \\ ax + b = -c \end{cases} $$
If c < 0, there is no solution.
Type 2: |ax + b| = |cx + d|
This also splits into two cases, regardless of the signs of the terms:
$$ \begin{cases} ax + b = cx + d \\ ax + b = -(cx + d) \end{cases} $$
