This calculator helps you determine your workplace injury incident rate, commonly used by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).
1. Select Input Method:
- Use Total Hours: If you know the total number of hours worked by all employees during the period (usually one year).
- Use Employees & Avg. Hours: If you know the total number of employees and the average hours each employee worked during the period.
2. Enter Data:
- Number of Recordable Injuries: Enter the total count of work-related injuries and illnesses that meet OSHA’s recording criteria for the period.
- Total Hours Worked: (If selected) Enter the sum of all hours worked by all employees. Do not include vacation, sick leave, or holiday hours.
- Number of Employees: (If selected) Enter the average number of employees during the period.
- Average Hours Worked per Employee: (If selected) Enter the average hours an employee worked during the period (e.g., 2000 hours for a typical full-time employee for a year).
3. Calculate:

Formula Used:
(Number of Recordable Injuries × 200,000) / Total Hours Worked by All Employees
The 200,000 figure represents the number of hours 100 full-time employees would work in a year (100 employees × 40 hours/week × 50 weeks/year).
Result:
The calculator will display the injury rate. This rate indicates the number of injuries per 100 full-time equivalent employees over a one-year period.
