Calories Burned by Activity
This calculator estimates the number of calories burned during physical activity using Metabolic Equivalents (METs).
What is a MET?
- A MET is a measure of the energy cost of physical activity relative to resting metabolic rate.
- 1 MET is equivalent to the energy expended while sitting quietly.
- An activity with a MET value of 5 means you are expending 5 times the energy you would if you were sitting still.
Calculation Formula:
- Calories Burned per Minute = (MET × Body Weight in kg × 3.5) / 200
- Total Calories Burned = Calories Burned per Minute × Duration in minutes
This calculator uses a comprehensive list of activities and their average MET values. Select an activity, enter your weight and the duration of the activity to get an estimate.
Factors Affecting Calories Burned:
- Intensity: Higher intensity generally means a higher MET value and more calories burned.
- Body Weight: Heavier individuals typically burn more calories for the same activity.
- Individual Metabolism: Metabolic rates can vary.
- Efficiency: How efficiently your body performs an activity can also play a role.
