VO2 Max Estimator
VO2 Max (maximal oxygen uptake) is a measure of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. It reflects the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during intense exercise.
This calculator estimates VO2 Max using two common field tests:
1. Rockport Walk Test (1-Mile Walk):
- Procedure: Walk one mile (1.6 km) as fast as possible on a flat, measured track. Immediately record your time and heart rate (beats per minute).
- Formula: VO2 Max = 132.853 – (0.0769 × Weightlbs) – (0.3877 × Age) + (6.315 × Gender) – (3.2649 × Timeminutes) – (0.1565 × Heart Ratebpm)
- Gender: Male=1, Female=0. Time in decimal minutes (e.g., 15 min 30 sec = 15.5 min).
2. Cooper Run Test (12-Minute Run/Walk):
- Procedure: Cover as much distance as possible by running or walking in 12 minutes on a flat, measured track.
- Formula: VO2 Max = (Distancemeters – 504.9) / 44.73
Fitness Categories (General): VO2 Max values are often compared against age and gender-specific norms. This calculator provides a general category. For detailed percentiles, consult fitness assessment resources.
Disclaimer: These tests provide ESTIMATES. Laboratory testing is the most accurate way to measure VO2 Max. Consult a healthcare professional before performing these tests or starting any new exercise program, especially if you have health concerns.
