GCF and LCM Calculator
Finding the GCF and LCM
This calculator uses the Prime Factorization Method to find both the GCF and LCM.
Greatest Common Factor (GCF): The largest positive integer that divides each of the numbers.
- Find the prime factorization of each number.
- Identify all common prime factors.
- For each common prime factor, take the one with the lowest exponent.
- Multiply these together to get the GCF.
Least Common Multiple (LCM): The smallest positive integer that is a multiple of all the numbers.
- Find the prime factorization of each number.
- List all prime factors that appear in *any* of the factorizations.
- For each prime factor, take the one with the highest exponent.
- Multiply these together to get the LCM.
